ACHE Category I Hours November 4 in Birmingham, AL

The Alabama Health Executives Forum (state chapter of ACHE) is hosting a Category 1 seminar (6-credit hours) on Friday, November 4, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Birmingham, AL. The seminar is entitled Possibilities, Probabilities and Creative Solutions: Breakthrough Thinking for Complex Environments led by Kevin E. O'Connor. It is one of ACHE's highest rated seminars. 

Seating capacity is limited to 40 participants. The Alabama Health Executives are offering a discounted early bird registration fee of $575 ($525 for groups of 3 or more from a single employer) prior to October 1. After that it will increase by $100.

The MS Healthcare Executives, an independent chapter of ACHE, will offer two Category I Programs for a total of 4.5 CEUs on June 8, 2011 at the The Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Point Clear, AL.  The two programs that will be offered are:

Mr. Steven Berger, FACHE, President of Healthcare Insights, LLC will present a three hour Category I program on "Using Metrics as a Road Map to Hospital Success" for $250.00* and a panel discussion will be moderated by Mary Mixon, Assistant Administrator of University Hospitals and Health System on "Cultural and Language Challenges of Diverse Patient Populations" for $220.00.

MHA offering Category I education on June 8

The chapter members of the MS Healthcare Executives voted to offer an additional 3.0 Category I continuing education credit at the June 8, 2011 Meeting in Point Clear, Alabama.  Mr. Steven Berger, FACHE, President of Healthcare Insights, LLC will present a three hour Category I program on "Using Metrics as a Road Map to Hospital Success".  The June 8th program will now have the following options:

1) Category I Out of the Box Program - 1.5 CEUs - $220.00
     Panel Discussion - "Cultural and Language Challenges of Diverse Patient Populations"

2) Category I ACHE Speaker (Steven Berger) - 3.0 CEUs - $250.00*

3) 4.5 Category I CEUs - includes both out of the box and ACHE Speaker - $450.00*

New ACHE chairman asks the public for ideas on how to improve health care

Rulon Stacy, the CEO of Poudre Valley Health System, has been named the chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives. To celebrate this occasion, he’s using YouTube and his blog to ask the public to submit ideas for making health care better.

“Health care faces a lot of challenges and opportunities right now, which is why I need your help,” Stacy says. “Over the next year as chairman, I’ll have a chance to look at all kinds of ways to improve our healthcare system and to help improve the nation’s health.” Want to comment? Go here.

ACHE installs new chairman

The American College of Healthcare Executives on March 19 installed as its chairman Rulon Stacey, president and CEO of Poudre Valley Health System in Fort Collins, CO. Gayle Capozzalo, executive vice president of strategy and system development at Yale New Haven (CT) Health System, took office as chairman-elect.

Mississippi Healthcare Executives annual meeting set for March

The Mississippi Healthcare Executives annual meeting will be hosted at the Hilton Hotel, County Line Road, Jackson, MS on March 10-11, 2011. Please be sure to make hotel reservations by calling 800-445-8667. The MHA room block rate is $114.00.

Hood Elected to ACHE Council of Regents

 

Fred B. Hood, administrator of North Mississippi Medical Center-Pontotoc, has been appointed to the Council of Regents, the legislative body of the American College of Healthcare Executives, which serves as the vital link between ACHE and affiliates. The Council of Regents approves governance and membership regulations as well as promotes ACHE programs, services and activities within their respective areas.

Hood will take office at the Council of Regents meeting March 19 during ACHE's 54th Congress on Healthcare Leadership at the Hilton Chicago. As a Regent, Hood will represent ACHE's membership in Mississippi.

Hood has served as administrator of NMMC-Pontotoc since 1990. Prior to this position, he was assistant executive director of Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale.

Hood is a member of the Mississippi Hospital Association, currently serving on MHA's  Committee on Finance and as President, MHA Northeast Hospital Council.  He is a member of the Mississippi Health Care Association and is licensed by the Mississippi Board of Nursing Home Administrators. Hood also serves on the Board of Directors of North Mississippi Emergency Management Authority and on the North Mississippi Trauma System Board of Directors. He is a member and past president of Mississippi Healthcare Executives/ACHE, Mid-South Health Care Executives/ACHE, and the MHA Quarter Century Executive Forum.  Board-certified in healthcare management, Hood is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Ware earns FACHE credentials

Bobbie K.Ware, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Baptist Health Systems, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.

“Because health care management ultimately affects the people in our communities, it is critically important to have a standard of excellence promoted by a professional organization,” says Thomas C. UHHS Executive Receives Health Care Management Recognition

David Putt, chief executive officer of University Hospitals and Health System, received the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Regent’s Award for exemplary health care management and mentorship.

Putt accepted the award June 11 at the Mississippi Hospital Association’s 79th Leadership Meeting in Point Clear, Ala. The Regent’s Award recognizes ACHE affiliates who are experienced in the field and have contributed significantly to the advancement of health care management excellence.

“Having received this award and being recognized for my leadership and mentorship of other health care leaders means a great deal to me. It also means that the institution is being recognized for what we do together as a team,” he said.
 
A retired naval officer, Putt joined University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1995. He earned a certificate as a radiologic technologist, an associate degree at George Washington University, a B.S. at the State University of New York and a master’s in public administration, health services management, at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Putt served as chief operating officer of UHHS beginning July 2006 and was appointed interim CEO in August 2008. He was named to the position permanently in February 2010.
To qualify for the award, ACHE affiliates are evaluated on several criteria, including innovative and creative management, executive capability in developing their own organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community, contributions to the development of others in the health care profession, leadership in local, state, or provincial hospital and health association activities, and participation in civic/community activities and projects.
Dr. Scott Stringer, associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs, said Putt is very deserving of this outstanding recognition. 

“His leadership skills have been critical in redefining University of Mississippi Health Care,” he said.
