Mississippi State Hospital (MSH) congratulates Betty Lang of Madison for obtaining a doctor of nursing practice degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
Lang, a family nurse practitioner on MSH’s medical psychiatric unit, has worked at the hospital for two years. She also holds both a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Mississippi.
The Jackson native has 15 years experience as a nurse practitioner, and worked at the G. A. Carmichael Family Health Center in Canton before joining MSH. She also is a clinical instructor at Hinds Community College.
“The doctor of nursing practice education and internship has provided me advanced knowledge and expertise in diabetes/chronic illness care,” Lang said. “Many patients at MSH have co-morbid illnesses, so it is important that we address the medical as well as the psychiatric illnesses. The med/psych unit in particular has enabled me to use my advanced training and skills.”
In her spare time, Lang said she likes spending time with her husband Craig and two sons Drew and Daniel. She also plays guitar and sings in the choir at her church, Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Madison.
