Singing River Health System is continuing its journey toward world class with the recent appointment of Matt Walker, RN, MSN/MBA, as Vice President of Neurosciences.
After earning his Bachelor of Nursing degree from Auburn University and being awarded a Master of Sciences in Nursing and a Master of Business Administration from Samford University in Birmingham, Walker began his health care career with SRHS as the Director of Perioperative Services at Ocean Springs Hospital.
Walker said the skills required for effective management are the same no matter the field. “From the daily challenges that stem from significant growth in service lines, or events like Katrina, or our more recent capacity issues, the Operating Room at Ocean Springs Hospital has further developed my management style,” he explained. “Regardless of the title, managing the delicate balances that surround healthcare and helping people are what I enjoy most.”
Lynn Truelove, SRHS Chief Operating Officer for Programs, agreed. “During the past six years, Matt has provided leadership which has contributed to significant growth within the surgical program at Ocean Springs Hospital,” he said. “I am confident that his dedication and abilities will continue to serve SRHS well as the Vice President of our Neurosciences Program.”
Walker said he plans to continue building the Neuroscience service line upon an already well-established foundation. “We will need to position ourselves for tomorrow, focus on team, and explore all opportunities on our journey toward World Class,” he said. “At the core of our program are outstanding physicians, surrounded by highly professional people. Whether it is through new programs, new facilities, or new management, the community we serve will benefit the most from our efforts going forward."
Walker, his wife, April, and their two children, reside in Pascagoula.
