Humphreys County Memorial Hospital has been purchased by Ray Shoemaker, CEO of Rural Healthcare Developers, Inc., a healthcare management and development company based in Plantersville, MS.
The 34-bed critical access hospital was purchased on April 30, 2008 from the Humphreys County Board of Supervisors and the HCMH Hospital Board.
The hospital will be renamed Patients’ Choice Medical Center of Humphreys County LLC.
For the past 16 months the hospital has been under the company’s management with Ray Shoemaker as administrator.
“ I’ve been working here and I know the people can make it happen,” said Shoemaker. “We’re excited about providing quality healthcare for this community.”
Under Shoemaker’s leadership, the financially-troubled hospital has dramatically increased patient admissions to their acute and swing bed units, added new programs and seen revenues increase.
New outpatient programs have contributed to the hospital’s revival. In addition to behavioral health outpatient programs at the hospital and increased emphasis on better utilizing the Senior Care unit, programs have been opened in eight other communities in the Mississippi Delta and central Mississippi.
RHD also manages the Choctaw County Medical Center, the nursing home and senior care unit in Ackerman and is reopening a hospital in Okolona.
Patients’ Choice Behavioral Health in Pineville, KY; and Trinity Hospital in Erin, TN, are being managed by Rural Healthcare Developers.
