At the recent annual volunteer appreciation luncheon, King’s Daughters Medical Center honored Keith McDaniel as the 2007 Volunteer of the Year.

The luncheon is held every year in conjunction with National Healthcare Volunteer Week, which this year is April 28th – May 2nd.

McDaniel began volunteering in the Emergency Room in 2002 when the facility instituted an Emergency Room host/hostess program to assist with customer service. During her shift, McDaniel assists family members and hospital staff both inside and outside of the Emergency Department.

“Keith is a valuable volunteer for her years of consistent service in one of the busiest areas of our hospital, but she is also a faithful reflection of our Christian mission statement,” said Jennifer Jackson, volunteer services coordinator. “We are blessed to have Keith in our hospital on a weekly basis. She tends to the needs of anyone she comes across.”

McDaniel was chosen for the honor based on peer votes through mail-in ballots. KDMC has almost 50 volunteers in many areas of the hospital.

Shann received his undergraduate and graduate education in Oklahoma. He completed his pediatric residency at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson. Shann began practicing in Oklahoma after graduation and moved to Brookhaven a month ago to begin his practice. He is board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
