Bozeman named Employee of the Quarter

Rose Bozeman, RN, was recently named the Employee of the Quarter at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. She is a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Jeff Davis purchases new CT scanner

The Radiology Department at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital recently installed a new state-of-the-art CT scanner. This scanner is the first of its type available in their medical community.

The new GE Light Speed QX/i is a multi-slice spiral scanner that allows for rapid scanning and  full range of clinical capabilities. The advanced telerad system allows for instantaneous reading of all CT scans.

Bourne named JDCH Employee of the Quarter

The Employee of the Quarter for Jefferson Davis Community Hospital is Marilyn Bourne. She received a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart, a gift certificate for two to The Country Fisherman, a reserved parking space and eligibility for Employee of the Year for the honor.

Marilyn is a receptionist/cashier that has been with the hospital since January 2001.

Nurse practitioner joins Dr. Berg

Carla Whitfield officially joined the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital Family Practice Clinic as Nurse Practitioner recently. She practices with Dr. Carol F. Berg in the Prentiss and Bassfield offices.

In 1988, she graduated with Special Honors from Pearl River Community College with an ADN. For the following 16 years, she held various positions at Marion General Hospital in Columbia, Miss.

In May 2003, Whitfield completed her BSN from the University of Southern Mississippi. She received her MSN as a nurse practitioner from the Mississippi University for Women in 2003.

She resides in Sumrall with her husband, John, and their sons, Robin, Justin, Ryan and Ethan.

Occupational therapy now available at Jefferson Davis

The Department of Rehabilitation Services at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital recently announced the addition of occupational therapy services. OT services will be provided by the Fitness & Rehabilitation Center and will include outpatient and inpatient services.

Grace Ojumu is the new registered occupational therapist on staff as the Wellness Center. Grace is originally from Nigeria and has been in the U.S. since 1994. She graduated from Oxford Brown in Oxford, England, in 1962. Grace has practiced in England, Nigeria, Missouri and Mississippi. Her specialties include hand, upper extremity, CVA (stroke) and pain relief. She is also a registered massage therapist.

Bridges elected to Jefferson Davis Community Hospital Board

Keith Bridges has been voted a member of the Board of Trustees for Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. He will serve a three-year term. Bridges is a Jeff Davis County native and active in community affairs. He serves as President of the Jefferson Davis Community Development Association, secretary of the Prentiss Rotary Club, is an active member of Prentiss Baptist Church and serves on the Board of Directors at Prentiss Christian School. He is employed with Farm Bureau Insurance.

Retirees honored - Sue Burns, Mary Oatis and Pearlie Otis

Marlon Roberts, a Board member, was also recognized for 20 years of service as a board member.

Jeff Davis sot host Spring Fling for senior citizens

On May 14, Jefferson Davis Community Hospital will host a Spring Fling in honor of the senior citizens of Jefferson Davis county. The day will be full of information on foot care, exercise, nutrition and eye care. There will be free glucose and cholesterol screening and free blood pressure and hearing checks.

In addition, classes will be provided on Everything You Need to Know and Understand About Medicare and Medicaid. An attorney will be onhand to dicuss living wills, power of attorney and advance directives. A pharmacist will be available to discuss the Medicare preferred drug list and other medicatio issues.

There will be face painting and other children's activities. Third and fourth graders have participated in a poster project in honor of seniors special to them. A cake walk and bingo for the adults is planned.

The hospital will honor the oldest senior in the county, the one with the most children and the one with the most grandchildren. For more information, contact Diane Daughdrill at (601) 792-1210.

Dr. Berg joins JDCH

Dr. Carol Berg has joined the staff of Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. She will practice at the Jefferson Davis Community Hospital Family Practice Clinic, located at 1814 Columbia Avenue in Prentiss, three days a week. The hospital has also recently opened the Bassfield Clinic and Dr. Berg will practice there two days a week.

Dr. Berg has been an active member of the medical staff since 1997 and is currently serving as chief of staff. She is board certified by the American Board of Ambulatory Medicine. Her M.D. is from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. She received additional postgraduate training from St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.

Jefferson Davis promotes McCall

Lee McCall was recently promoted to senior director of operations at Jefferson Davis Community Hospital in Prentiss. McCall will have the administrative responsibility for Physical Therapy, Wellness Center, Laboratory, Radiology, Purchasing and Hospital Clinics.

"Lee McCall is a great asset to this hospital. He came to us for an internship during his last year in Healthcare Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi. We were fortunate to have him accept a full time position with us upon graduation. He was originally hired to manage the M. L. Arrington Wellness Center, however after he got that project up and running, we just kept giving him new challenges. He is well trained, is very analytical, decisive and can get the job done - we are glad to have him on the administrative team," says Mary Curtis, chief executive officer.

McCall received a Master's in Health Administration and Policy and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), sits on the Regent Advisory Council for ACHE, is a member of the Board of Directors of Jefferson Davis County Chamber of Commerce, serves as chairman of the Birthday Challenge Committee and serves on the Run for the Roses Committee.

He is a native of Byram. He and his wife, Ashley, live in Florence.
