Patterson named 2011 Dennis Cagle Emerging Leader

Glenn Patterson, Plant Services Director for King's Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City, has been named as the 2011 Dennis Cagle Emerging Leader by the MHA Society for Healthcare Engineers and Facility Managers. The award was presented to him on Monday, June 27, during the Society’s annual meeting.  Robert Huffman, Society President, made the presentation.

In his role as Plant Services Director at King’s Daughters Hospital Yazoo City, Glenn Patterson continuously works to enhance the efficiency of hospital operations and safety for staff and community and actively promotes collaboration with the hospital’s supporting city and county resources including public works, emergency management, fire and police staff as well as CSX Railroad Emergency Preparedness personnel. 

Patterson has leveraged thousands of dollars in federal grant funds to improve the technological capacity of his hospital to prepare for and respond to disasters. He developed a rural hospital amateur radio communications model that has been shared statewide. He also established a HAM Radio club in his hospital which has been applauded by local, state and federal emergency response agencies for their critical communications linking during local disasters including the devastating killer tornado that wreaked havoc on his city in April of 2010.

Patterson is the first Mississippian to be awarded the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Challenge Coin for his readiness and advocacy.  Under his leadership, the King’s Daughters Yazoo City Amateur Radio Club has established a mentoring scholarship program to assist local teams in achieving Federal Communications Commission amateur radio licensing and to purchase their first radio equipment. 

He is instrumental in supporting the training of other hospital staff to achieve advanced certifications and training to further their personal and professional development, and he has completed National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 Training. 

 

Weaver joins KDH in Yazoo City

Daryl Weaver recent joined King’s Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City as administrator and chief executive officer. He comes to KDH with more than 20 years of experience in hospital administration. He received a B.S. from Samford University and his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

KDH honors surgeon on last day of job

Dr. David Johnson was honored recently with a reception on the last day of his job at King's Daughters Hospital. His wife, Ophelia Johnson, was also an honoree.

Dr. Johnson independently operated the Surgical Clinic of Yazoo in May 2001 after KDH recruited him. He became a hospital employee in 2003.

In May, hospital officials announced the clinic's closure, citing rising expenses and the community's decreased utilization of the clinic.

King's Daughters Hospital employees were recently recognized for years of service. Receiving service pins were:

30-year pin: Joe Buckley

25-year pins: Dorothy Hope, Essie Edwards, Penny Jackson and Helen Anderson

15-year pin: Lum Wongrapan

10-year pins: Coretha Waters, Lola Gower and Jeanette Hudson

5-year pins: Virgil Patton, Ida Carter, Kam Neel and Jackie Moore

King's Daughters Hospital to close surgical clinic

King's Daughters Hospital in Yazoo City recently announced the June 10th closure of its surgical clinic. Dr. David Johnson independently opened the Surgical Clinic of Yazoo in May 2001 after KDH recruited him. Due to a substantial increase in the cost of his malpractice insurance, Johnson was forced to close the clinic in May 2003.

The hospital took the calculated risk of reopening the clinic in November 2003 as a department of the hospital, which included the employment of Dr. Johnson. After a year and a half of increasingly concerning financial losses, the hospital has elected to shut it down.
