Reps. Paul Tonko (D-NY) and Pete Stark (D-CA) recently introduced a House companion to the Medicare Mental Health Inpatient Equity Act (H.R. 2783), legislation that would eliminate the 190-day lifetime cap on Medicare coverage for inpatients in psychiatric hospitals. The Mental Health Liaison Group, whose members include the American Hospital Association, supports the bill. Sens. John Kerry (D-MA) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) introduced the Senate measure (S. 374) in February.
