Leaders of the PAC Newsletter - Fall 2009

The Mississippi Hospital Association’s Political Action Committee (MHAPAC) is working to meet our 2009 fundraising deadline, which is November 30, 2009.  This year, our goal is to raise over $126,000 in PAC contributions. Mississippi will have major elections over the next three years, so it is vital to have a fully funded PAC. We all must work together to ensure health care supporters are elected into office. 

Each quarter, we send our Leaders of the PAC newsletter to keep everyone updated on interests relative to MHAPAC. Please see the attached Leaders of the PAC for Fall 2009. This issue includes recognition for 2009 PAC members (through October 1st) and hospital goal achievements. 

On a final note, Mr. Chip Denton, CEO at Grenada Lake Medical Center, recently announced he is hosting a golf event in Grenada on November 16th to benefit the MHAPAC. All tournament fees will count toward hospital PAC goals.

PAC activity increases for 2004 elections

Financial activity by political action committees (PACs) increased during 2003-2004 when compared to the prior two-year period, according to figures compiled by the Federal Election Commission.  From January 1, 2003, through December 31, 2004, PACs raised $915.7 million (up 34% over 2002) and spent $842.9 million, up 28% over 2001-2002.  Cash on hand as of December 31, 2004, for the 4,867 PACs totaled $241.7 million.
