A community meeting for flood-affected residents of the South Ward in Vicksburg is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Warrenton Elementary School cafeteria, 809 Belva Drive. An Emergency Meeting For Redwood Elementary parents will be held today at the Sherman Avenue Gym at 6 pm. This meeting will address any questions and concerns that parents and guardians might have. The Vicksburg Red Cross announced that a shelter will open at Hawkins United Methodist Church today at noon for those displaced by flood waters. If you need shelter go to the church but please only bring your essentials: medicine, blankets, bedding, pillows, etc. No pets allowed.
President Obama declared an emergency for the following Mississippi counties: Adams, Bolivar, Claiborne, Coahoma, DeSoto, Issaquena, Jefferson, Tunica, Warren, Washington, and Wilkinson counties. FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize, and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.
