Long-Term and Post-Acute Care HIT Summit

The 2010 Long-Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC) Summit will cover national policy, strategies, standards, updates on current industry initiatives, research, implementation guidance, and technology vendor interaction through lively dialogues and expert-led education. This year’s summit, on June 7 – 8 in Baltimore, features keynote speaker Eric Dishman, an Intel Fellow and director of health innovation and policy for Intel’s Digital Health Group, which he helped launch in 1999. Dishman is widely recognized as a global leader in driving healthcare reform through home and community-based technologies and services, with special focus on enabling independent living for seniors.

NQF forms health IT advisory committee

The National Quality Forum has created a new committee to inform its work on health information technology. The Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, representing a cross section of health care-related stakeholders, is charged with developing a strategic health IT plan for the group and making recommendations on the endorsement and maintenance of health IT-related consensus standards, among other responsibilities.

Health IT "has great potential to accelerate quality improvement in healthcare," said NQF President and CEO Janet Corrigan. "We're fortunate to have such a diverse group of experts from across the healthcare system to guide NQF's work in this area. Their expertise will help guide work to ensure electronic health records and personal health records are capable of measuring and reporting on quality to drive transformations in care delivery. They will also play a key role in the integration of HIT and performance measures."

AHIMA addresses physician queries in guidance for CDI programs

On April 29, AHIMA issued a practice brief, “Guidance for Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Programs,” which provides an overview of critical elements in establishing, maintaining, or enhancing a CDI program.

In addition to outlining the role of the CDI professional and the typical competencies of those who hold these positions, the practice brief discusses a variety of staffing models, including single discipline models as well as hybrid models.

 

AHIMA also addresses the following aspects of the physician query process:

• Written and template queries
• Query timeliness and interpretation
• Leading versus nonleading queries
• Verbal queries
• Query retention
