Physician smartphone popularity shifts health IT focus to mobile use

Physicians’ rapid embrace of mobile devices has caught many involved in health information technology (IT) off guard, according to a story by American Medical News. That is especially true for hospitals, the story notes, many of which rely on desktop-based health technology and report being besieged by physician demands that electronic clinical information systems be available through their smartphones.

HIT Staff Shortages: A Potential Barrier To Meaningful Use

Much has been documented recently about the shortage of physicians and other caregivers in the United States and how this may hinder the country's ability to accommodate the increased patient care demands brought on by healthcare reform. However, another (less publicized) shortcoming has the potential to thwart the advancement of the health care industry from a technical perspective ? the lack of HIT (health information technology) employees.
