"The booming health market is driving a surge of activity from companies looking to mine opportunities for growth, differentiation and jobs," the report states.
The ONC has granted about $5 million to Health 2.0 and the Capital Consulting Corporation as part of a program to foster the development of innovative health IT systems. The initiative allows for "open collaboration from a wide range of diverse individuals and organizations that will increase the national rate of innovation and adoption of health IT as we improve health care of all Americans," National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari said.
University of Wisconsin researchers will use $9.5 million from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to examine ways to enhance care for seniors using health IT and communication tools. "This study holds great potential for helping older adults continue to live long and productive lives in their own homes," said lead researcher David Gustafson.
