How employees affected by Katrina can access the funds in their retirement accounts

As a result of the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, AIG VALIC acknowledges the potential need for VALIC participants in affected areas to receive expedited loans or hardship withdrawals from their VALIC retirement accounts to assist in rebuilding. AIG VALIC will make the following accommodations for participants who were affected by the storm.

  • Partial withdrawals and new loan requests received between 08/26/05 and 10/31/05 will receive expedited handling. The Client Care Center must be informed that the request is due to the hurricane.
  • Payments on new or existing loans may be extended for a reasonable period up to a maximum of 90 days. Policy loan fees will be waived for clients who are taking a loan due to this storm.

Proceeds from loan or withdrawal transactions will be sent to the participant in the manner necessary to ensure prompt delivery. No charge for express services will be billed to the participant.
If clients contact the Client Care Center at 800-448-2542, the forms will be identified to the processing areas as a priority request.

If the form is mailed directly to the Home Office, the form should have a note on top of the request that states “Storm Request”.

For further information, participants may contact the Client Care Center at 1-800-448-2542 or Barbara Redstone at 601-572-8414.
