The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Aug. 23 announced its approval of Det Norske Veritas Healthcare for continued recognition as a national accrediting organization for hospitals that participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs. Hospitals accredited by CMS-recognized accrediting organizations are deemed to have met the Medicare conditions of participation.
In related news, CMS also renewed the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care as a national accreditation organization with deeming authority for Medicare Advantage health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations. Both accreditation programs were approved for six years.
