The Division of Medicaid was directed by the Legislature to revise the hospital inpatient payment methodology to an All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Group (APR-DRG) system. Implementation is scheduled for admission dates of service on or after October 1, 2012.
Hospitals were notified of this implementation at the July 11, 2012 meeting that was held at the Central High Auditorium in Jackson, MS. The Administrative Code was issued for public notice August 6, 2012 and the State Plan Amendment notice was published August 13, 2012. A public hearing was held August 27, 2012. A blast fax was also sent to providers from Xerox requesting participation in APR-DRG training sessions. Three training sessions have already been conducted. Future training dates are posted on the Medicaid website along with registration information, using the link below.
An APR-DRG (Inpatient) Pricing Calculator that will assist in estimating APR-DRG payments under the new methodology and additional information regarding Medicaid’s APR-DRG payment system can be found here.
Those hospitals that would like to receive hospital-specific inpatient APR-DRG simulation results should submit a request via e-mail to Wayne Akins, Senior Consultant, Payment Method Development at wayne.akins@xerox.com. The request should include your name, provider name, National Provider Identifier and confirmation that you are authorized by your hospital to receive this information. The simulation results will not contain protected health information.
