On November 1, the Mississippi Hospital Association will host a workshop on observation and outpatient medical necessity from 8:30 a.m until 4:30 p.m. at the MHA Conference Center in Madison. This program is designed to discuss and provide specific reference for observation in today’s current environment.
Observation is complex by payor in regards to documentation guidelines and billing guidelines. Medicare references have stated “…medical necessity is the overarching criterion for payment.” Increasing retrospective denials have resulted in significant financial losses. This program will focus on helping to stop this cycle.
