Nearly two-thirds of Americans would like electronic access to their health records, according to a new survey by the Markle Foundation. More than nine in 10 respondents said it was important for their doctor to have access to all of their medical records to provide the best care and for patients to have access to their own medical records to manage their health. While 80% were concerned about identity theft or fraud and that the data might be used by marketers without their permission, 75% were willing to share personal health information with public officials for quality improvement and disease tracking if their identity were protected.
