Title XIII of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), includes many provisions which significantly expand the scope, penalties, and compliance challenges of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Learn from an expert, Barry Herrin, JD, of Smith Moore Leatherwood, LLP, the highlights of HITECH and the effects of such provisions on hospitals and their business associates and strategies to ensure compliance.
