More than 20 organizations representing various aspects of the U.S. workforce on Feb. 22 announced an alliance that will promote strategies for recruiting and retaining workers age 50 and over as the baby boom generation approaches retirement. The Alliance for an Experienced Workforce, whose members include the American Hospital Association, will cultivate best practices on issues such as employee benefits, workplace design and recruitment strategies.
“We currently face a shortage of nurses and doctors in hospitals across the country,” said AHA President Dick Davidson. “More experienced doctors and nurses fulfill a critical role not only in caring for patients, but also as mentors for younger caregivers and keepers of institutional knowledge. We need to find ways together to support and encourage older workers.” Led by AARP, the Society for Human Resource Management and American Petroleum Institute, the Alliance represents more than five million employers.
