Under the proposed rule, CMS projects Medicare operating payments to acute care hospitals for discharges occurring in FY 2012 would decrease by a projected $498 million or 0.5 percent in FY 2012 relative to FY 2011. Due to changes in hospital coding practices that did not reflect increases in patients’ severity of illnesses Medicare finalized a documentation and
coding adjustment (DCA) of -2.0% instead of the proposed 3.15@ for FY 2012. Reimbursement changes include a hospital update of 1.5% outliers; the proposed threshold increase of 1.3% would reduce the number of cases eligible for outlier payments in FY 2012 compared to FY 2011. This webinar will also discuss readmission provisions and replacement of recalled devices.
