U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss) recently highlighted drug courts in the fight against opioid addiction. In Mississippi, overdose deaths caused by opioids have nearly doubled from 2011 to 2015. Wicker says drug courts are an important solution to treat nonviolent offenders who have a drug addiction. He writes, "The drug court system has been shown to lower crime, prevent re-arrests, and save money for taxpayers."
